A closer look at your adventure.

An eight-day sample trip including a six-day Marangu climbing programme and hotel time before and after the trek. A Horombo acclimatisation day is included in the route. EVERY DAY, A NEW CHAPTER

Your day-by-day itinerary.

A sample route to shape with your operator. The final programme confirms accommodation, meals, activities and transfers.

01
DAY 1

Moshi briefing and equipment check

Arrive in Moshi and meet your mountain team for a route and safety briefing. Review personal equipment, weather protection and the support arrangements included in your quotation. Discuss medical considerations and emergency procedures with the operator before committing to the trek. Overnight in Moshi; the following day begins only after the team confirms readiness.

02
DAY 2

Marangu Gate to Mandara

Complete registration at Marangu Gate and begin the guided walk towards Mandara Hut through the forest. Take breaks as needed and keep waterproof layers close at hand. Arrive at the hut area, settle into the accommodation confirmed by your operator and discuss the next stage. Hut availability and group arrangements must be confirmed when booking.

03
DAY 3

Mandara to Horombo

Continue from Mandara towards Horombo as the trail moves into a different vegetation zone. Maintain a slow, consistent walking pace and stop for meals and water with your guide. On arrival, rest and review how you are feeling. The team confirms the following day’s acclimatisation plan and hut arrangements in line with your final itinerary.

04
DAY 4

Acclimatisation at Horombo

Keep this day focused on acclimatisation, using a guided excursion only where advised by the mountain team. Return to Horombo for a second night and allow time to rest, check equipment and discuss any symptoms. The day is a safety and preparation stage, not an extra summit objective. Your guide can alter the programme when conditions require.

05
DAY 5

Horombo to Kibo

Walk towards Kibo with the crew, taking a controlled pace across the higher terrain. Arrive with time to eat, rest and prepare for the proposed summit departure. Your guides assess the group and explain the turnaround plan. The following attempt is subject to health, weather and operational conditions; the itinerary does not promise a summit.

06
DAY 6

Summit attempt and return towards Horombo

Set out for the guided summit attempt at the time advised by your mountain team. The guide monitors conditions and wellbeing throughout, with agreed turnaround decisions taking precedence over the plan. After the attempt, descend towards Horombo for rest. This is a long and demanding day, and the operator may revise the programme for safety.

07
DAY 7

Return to Marangu Gate

Descend from Horombo via the agreed trail to Marangu Gate, taking regular breaks and remaining attentive to footing. Complete the exit formalities with your guide and transfer to Moshi. Allow the afternoon for recovery and a final discussion with your operator. Confirm an onward departure time that leaves enough room for this descent day.

08
DAY 8

A little time for yourselves

Keep the morning relaxed at your selected accommodation, then choose an agreed local outing or optional experience. This day gives your journey breathing space between safari drives and transfers. Private meals, spa treatments or special celebrations can be requested and quoted separately. Tell the operator about your preferences early so realistic arrangements can be made.
