THE JOURNEY AT A GLANCE

A closer look at your adventure.

A ten-day sample journey including an eight-day Lemosho mountain programme, a briefing night and a recovery day. A slower start across the Shira area provides additional mountain time. Camping, crew support, equipment and emergency arrangements are agreed before booking; a summit is never guaranteed.

  • A gentler Shira acclimatisation day
  • Lava Tower and Barranco
  • Barranco to Karanga
EVERY DAY, A NEW CHAPTER

Your day-by-day itinerary.

A sample route to shape with your operator. The final programme confirms accommodation, meals, activities and transfers.

01
DAY 1

Moshi briefing and equipment check

Arrive in Moshi and meet your mountain team for a route and safety briefing. Review personal equipment, weather protection and the support arrangements included in your quotation. Discuss medical considerations and emergency procedures with the operator before committing to the trek. Overnight in Moshi; the following day begins only after the team confirms readiness.

02
DAY 2

Lemosho forest approach

Transfer to the registration point for the Lemosho route and begin the guided forest approach after formalities. Walk at a comfortable introductory pace, allowing time to familiarise yourself with the trail and support crew. Reach the first scheduled camp and settle in. Exact starting arrangements and access conditions are reconfirmed by the operator before departure.

03
DAY 3

Walk to Shira One

Leave the forest zone and continue towards the Shira Plateau, stopping regularly for water, photographs and the lunch arranged by your crew. Your guide sets a steady pace suited to the group rather than a race to camp. Spend the afternoon resting at the scheduled Shira One campsite and discussing how you are adapting.

04
DAY 4

A gentler Shira acclimatisation day

Spend another day on the Shira Plateau, moving to the next scheduled camp with time for a short acclimatisation walk if advised by your guide. This deliberate pacing provides additional time on the mountain. Stay warm and avoid unnecessary exertion around camp. Route details and overnight location depend on the final Lemosho programme agreed with the operator.

05
DAY 5

Lava Tower and Barranco

Follow the planned acclimatisation stage towards Lava Tower before descending to the Barranco area. This day combines a higher excursion with a lower overnight position, with your guide adapting the pace to the group. Keep your warm layers accessible and report any symptoms promptly. Overnight at the agreed camp; safety takes priority over reaching a waypoint.

06
DAY 6

Barranco to Karanga

Leave Barranco after breakfast and follow your guide through the day’s terrain towards Karanga. Progress carefully on the steeper sections, using the assistance and briefings provided by the team. The afternoon is kept relatively gentle for rest and acclimatisation. Review equipment for the higher camps and confirm the next stage with your lead guide.

07
DAY 7

Prepare at Barafu

Continue to Barafu at a measured pace, arriving with time to eat, rest and organise your summit clothing. Your guides will explain the proposed departure time, route and turnaround arrangements. The summit attempt is conditional on your health and local conditions. Stay hydrated, report concerns early and follow the team’s decisions about whether to proceed.

08
DAY 8

Summit attempt and descent

Begin the planned summit attempt under your guide’s supervision, with frequent checks on pace, wellbeing and conditions. Continue only if the guide considers it appropriate; reaching the summit is never guaranteed. After the attempt, descend via the agreed route to a lower camp for rest. This is a demanding stage, and safety decisions override the sample schedule.

09
DAY 9

Descent and return to Moshi

Descend towards Mweka Gate with your mountain team, keeping your attention on the trail after the previous demanding day. Complete the park exit arrangements and meet the transfer back to Moshi. Enjoy a shower, rest and a final briefing with your operator. Any celebration meal, certificates or additional hotel nights follow the confirmed quotation.

10
DAY 10

A little time for yourselves

Keep the morning relaxed at your selected accommodation, then choose an agreed local outing or optional experience. This day gives your journey breathing space between safari drives and transfers. Private meals, spa treatments or special celebrations can be requested and quoted separately. Tell the operator about your preferences early so realistic arrangements can be made.
